Our sustainability journey

As a global supplier of animal raw materials and ingredients, BHJ feels a strong responsibility to do business as sustainably as possible. The latest climate science from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that it is still possible to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. What is needed to limit the global temperature rise is rapid and deep greenhouse gas emission cuts by halving global emissions before 2030 and achieving net-zero before 2050. To meet this ambition, BHJ has committed to set near-term company-wide emission reduction targets in line with climate science with the SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative). Baseline measurements and first steps

Capturing data from focused measurements across our business operations is essential, if BHJ is to contribute effectively to the ambition of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Currently, we are in the process of establishing a company-wide emission baseline with measurements in all locations, and the first measurements are already completed. Once BHJ’s emission baseline is finished by 2023, we will hand over our data sets to the SBTi, who will validate that our near-term reduction targets are in line with the overall ambition.
On top of this, it is just as important to work together with suppliers and customers to capture the right data across the entire supply chain. This will create verifiable transparency, as we collectively aim to achieve long-term goals such as net zero with our business partners.
